Gmail users will shortly be given a better way to manage the flood of emails that come their way. A new ‘priority inbox’ will sort your messages based on how important Google thinks they are. This ‘importance’ will be calculated in a number of ways, including how often you email the sender and which messages you reply to. Spotify ‘will launch in US by end of 2010′
On Jul 29th, Billboard, a US music industry magazine, reported that Spotify’s “licensing negotiations with the major [US] music labels have reverted back to square one”, citing multiple sources. However, Spotify, talking to The Telegraph, has denied the allegations in the report, saying the service is still on course to launch by the end of 2010. Google Android apps ‘collecting personal data’
According to Lookout, a US-based security firm, more than 80 Google Android wallpaper apps were collecting mobile phone numbers and personal details, including unique subscriber numbers. Many of the apps also “dialled home” to their developers, transmitting unencrypted sensitive data back to remote servers. One such app, called Jackeey Wallpaper, was downloaded millions of times, and sent data back to China, according to Kevin MaHaffey, Lookout’s chief technology officer. Microsoft turns on Yahoo!
Brad Smith, Microsoft’s senior vice president and general counsel, said of the new partnership, which was announced yesterday: “This agreement is even more anti-competitive than Google’s deal with Yahoo! in the United States and Canada that the Department of Justice found to be illegal.
